Ladies Basketball Rules

  • All players must wear their jerseys, home team in white.
  • All players must not wear jewelry or hair clips.
  • No chewing gum or eating food during practices or games.
  • All games will consist of two 20-minute halves, and be played in the 75 minutes allotted.
  • The first ten minutes of the scheduled game time will be reserved for team warm-ups.
  • The game clock will run nonstop for the first seventeen minutes of each half. Thereafter (for the remaining three minutes of each half) the game clock will stop and start at each whistle until the end of the half. The clock will stop for fifteen seconds to set up for foul shooting in the sophomore division only.
  • Each team has two one minute time-outs per half.
  • Half-time will consist of a three minute break.
  • Each team has ten seconds to bring the ball up past the mid-court line.
  • Back court rules:
    • Sophomore division - no defense in the back court.
    • Junior division -backcourt press allowed, no double-teaming
    • Senior division - high school rules.
  • Double-teaming rules:
    • Sophomore division - man on man defense only
    • Junior division - no double-teaming above the foul line extended to the sidelines of the court. No zone defense.
    • Senior Division - high school rules.
  • Paint rules:
    • Sophomore division - five seconds in the paint.
    • Junior and Senior divisions - three seconds in the paint.

Athletes, parents, coaches and officials are expected to behave in a sportsman-like manner. All adults are reminded to set a good example for the youngsters of the Middle Country community.

Please remember that the sophomore division is an instructional league whose primary purpose is to teach the rules and skills of the game to the young people.

Parents - no smoking on school grounds and no parking in the fire zone. Please do not allow your children to wantder the school halls. If we lose these gyms for any reason the athletes will not be able to play ball this year and possibly for years to come.
